Aparecido “Bill” is well known among his students, friend’s and the martial arts community as “Professor Bill”, is a 6th degree Black Belt, a two times Jiu-Jitsu World Champion, five times Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu National Champion and many more titles..
As a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he grew up in a rough neighborhood where many of its youth were at high risk of taking the wrong path of drugs and crime that would lead them to Jail or even worse dead. This grim reality gave his parents Osvaldo and Susana great concern. So they decided to sacrifice their time and money to ensure that Bill was able to start learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the young age of 7.
Bill began his training with a friend of his father the Grandmaster Monir Salomao a 9th degree red belt. Using great perseverance and discipline Bill was able to use his teachings to protect his self a possibly doomed lifestyle and neighborhood bullies.
Although at times things were very difficult for him growing up. He was able to use his new found sense of confidence, discipline and self-respect to move his life in a more positive direction. Through years of being committed to living the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle, Bill was able to dedicate himself and eventually started to participate at the national and world championship level. Through all of this he was able to achieve one of his biggest goals. He earned the black belt, given to him by professor Wendell Alexander.
After competing amongst some of the greatest in the Jiu-Jitsu arena he decided to seek new challenges. With the help of some of his team members moved to the United States in 1996 to achieve to goals. He wanted to share his knowledge with the world and earn his 4th degree black belt with Master Carlos Gracie Jr.
His travels have taken him all over the country from Jacksonville, New Orleans, Los Angeles and finally settling in Northern California. It is here that he opened up his own Jiu-Jitsu academy in the beautiful wine country of Sonoma County. Over the next 9 years Bill successfully built his business from the ground up and taught thousands of students that walked through his doors.
